The wind made an eerie sound

The trees started coming down

Cars and houses were tossed around

Some people were lost and couldn’t be

found

And of course it was wet

We thought – nothing to fret

Who knew the water

Could wreak such a slaughter

If we’d placed wages

We woulda lost that bet

It all seemed bleak and dreary

All of a sudden, there came such a clatter

People came to see what was the matter

They pitched in with all their might

Brought their tools and all their fight

To make this wrong all right

Working day and night

People from the east and people from the

west

Some of the Canadians were the best

Of course we had FEMA and the govvies,

working like crazy

One of the shiny stars was the Cajun navy

But it was and is the entire effort

From people far and wide

That allows us to take Helene’s destruction

in stride.

Helene! The Queen of Mean – You gave us

a helluva ride!!
